About us
The Ford family’s waste business.
Sussex, since 2005.
Dan and Georgia Ford have run Allied Waste Management — now trading as Ford Waste Recycling Solutions — since 2009. Thirteen people, six trucks, around three hundred skips, and a licensed recycling facility we built ourselves.
Plenty of waste websites talk about “networks” and “partners”. Here is what we actually have, on one site at Squires Farm Industrial Estate outside Uckfield: a 12,000 sq ft licensed waste transfer station, a separate licensed asbestos transfer station, a weighbridge, six trucks, and a team of thirteen — several of whom have been here for most of the company’s twenty years.
The business started in 2005 and the Fords took it on in 2009. Dan still runs the operation hands-on — one of our longest-standing trade customers put it best: “Dan has helped Allied Waste grow remarkably over past years and this is because of his hands-on approach to the works.” Georgia runs the office. When you call, you get one of the team who can actually see the yard.
Most of our work has always come by word of mouth: homeowners, builders, other skip companies who tip through our facility, and county councils who call us when asbestos turns up fly-tipped in a lay-by. We’d rather earn the next twenty years the same way — by doing exactly what was agreed, when it was agreed.
The environmental bit, without the greenwash
Every load we collect comes back to our own transfer station and gets sorted — by machine and by hand. 100% of general waste is recycled; nothing goes to landfill. Cardboard, wood, metal, inert and green waste each leave in their own streams to processors we can name. Asbestos is the exception by design: it is hazardous waste, consigned and disposed of at approved facilities with a paper trail you keep for three years.
We are an Environment Agency upper-tier waste carrier with WAMITAB-certified management, and one of only two operators licensed to handle asbestos in our area. The actual documents — licence, permits, insurance, certificates — are on the resources page, not in a drawer.
