Skip hire Lewes

Lewes is one of the most rewarding and most awkward towns in Sussex to deliver a skip to, and we say that with affection. The county town’s medieval and Georgian core — Keere Street, the twittens off the High Street, the lanes around the castle — was never designed for a skip lorry, and much of it sits inside a conservation area. Twenty years of working these streets from our Uckfield depot, twenty minutes up the A26, has taught us which jobs need a standard skip, which need our smallest 4-yard, and which are far better served by a wait & load slot, where the driver waits while you load and nothing is left on the highway at all.

The housing stock here makes for distinctive waste. Flint walls, lath-and-plaster, old brick and lime mortar come out of renovations in the centre, while the Victorian terraces of the Pells and South Street produce the usual mix of plaster, timber and tile. Hardcore and flint rubble are heavy — that is why we limit hardcore loads to 8-yard skips and below, and our team will tell you honestly when two smaller skips will cost you less than one overloaded large one.

For skips on the public highway, Lewes falls under East Sussex County Council’s permit scheme; we apply on your behalf and include the required cones and lights. Many houses in the centre have no off-street parking, so allow a few extra days for the permit before your project starts. And if you are stripping out a cellar, garage or outbuilding, have any suspect cement sheeting checked: as one of only two asbestos-licensed operators in the area we can supply a lockable asbestos skip or collect bonded sheets with the consignment note completed for you.
